Diabetic Eye Treatment
All of the doctors at our practice have a special interest in evaluations of our diabetic patient's eye health. Although we know more about diabetes and its complications related to the eye today than ever before, it is still the NUMBER ONE cause of vision loss and legal blindness in younger adults. Diabetes can make a person more susceptible to eye infections and cataract development. By damaging blood vessels in the eye, diabetes can cause blurry vision for a large number of people. During an eye exam, the blood vessels of the eye can be directly observed, giving an indication of how healthy the blood vessels are in the rest of the body. We have specialized digital photography equipment to assess and follow diabetes-related ocular conditions. Argon Laser treatment is also available for those in need. All Medical Associations, as well as Ophthalmology and Optometric Associations, recommend an annual eye exam for patients with diabetes. We work closely with your family doctor, internist, and endocrinologist, to give them the most up to date information regarding your eye health. This can help them make decisions regarding your blood sugar control to keep your eyes, and the rest of your body as healthy as possible.
If you or a loved one suffer from diabetes and haven’t had an eye exam in over a year, please contact us today to schedule your evaluation.
